What is a Probate?

Last Updated:

03/04/2025

Probate is a document issued by the Supreme Court of New South Wales that confirms the validity of the last Will of the deceased and verifies the executor’s authority to deal with the deceased estate. When someone you know dies leaving a valid will and assets in New South Wales it may be necessary to apply for a grant of probate. Depending on the type, size and value of the assets located in New South Wales it may not be necessary to obtain a grant of probate in New South Wales. An application for a grant of Probate must be made to the Supreme Court of NSW.
